There are some rappers that have one good album and then fade away. Long Beach rapper Vince Staples will hopefully not be one of them and, if we’re judging off of his work since 2015’s top-tier LP Summertime ’06, he shouldn’t fade away.
During an April interview with Complex, Staples revealed his next album will be titled Big Fish Theory. I’m crossing my fingers — fans should, too — that this is a self-aware album where he recognizes his unique talent behind the mic makes him a “big fish” in today’s hip-hop. So, cocky Vince Staples? Who says no?
On Instagram, Sunday, Staples posted this:
I’m guessing that’s the album artwork for Big Fish Theory, which wouldn’t be terrible. But the most shocking is the date: May 19, 2017. Um, guys, that’s this week.
After a slow weekend for hip-hop releases (MGK, B.o.B.), Staples would be a fun addition to the jam-packed 2017 for rap.
